Apple launches budget-friendly iPhone 16e

Apple has unveiled a new, budget-friendly addition to the iPhone 16 family with the iPhone 16e. It is packed with premium features like the A18 chip, a 48-megapixel (MP) 2-in-1 rear camera system, Face ID (bye bye, Touch ID), 6.1-inch display and of course, Apple Intelligence.

Powered by Apple’s A18 chip, iPhone 16e is said to offer up to 80 per cent faster performance than the A13 chip found in older models for smooth multitasking and console-like gaming on the go. It also features the new Apple-designed C1 modem, offering efficient and reliable 5G connectivity while offering industry-leading battery life. It supports both USB-C and wireless charging (but not MagSafe).

Its 48MP Fusion camera comes with a built-in 2x Telephoto lens, offering the equivalent of two cameras in one. This camera is said to capture stunning high-resolution photos and 4K Dolby Vision videos, while the front-facing TrueDepth camera enhances selfies and group shots with autofocus.

Design wise, it looks just like any iPhone 16 with a ceramic shield front cover, IP68-rated water and dust resistance, and a vibrant 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display. But rather than the Dynamic Island, you get the notch found in iPhone X. However, like its iPhone 15/16 cousins, the iPhone 16e features the Action button for easy access to a variety of functions.

Not even found in “non-pro” iPhone 15, the iPhone 16e supports Apple Intelligence with features like natural language photo search, the Clean Up tool for editing distractions in pictures, and Writing Tools with ChatGPT integration.

Pricing of iPhone 16e starts from S$949 (128G), S$1,099 (256GB) to S$1,399 (512GB) and will be available in sleek matte black and white finishes. Pre-orders begin on February 21, with availability starting February 28. You can head over to Apple Store to pre-order.
