Available in black and white (version reviewed), the G522 combines form and function into one desirable package. For a start, its design is nice and sleek. As its maker described, it has sleek curves and sophisticated silhouette that reveal a fresh and elevated design. Fancy words, but I like the hard plastic headband with an adjustable soft suspension insert. This means no leathery headband that might peel off in Singapore’s humid weather.

Apart from durability, the suspension band offers much better comfort and breathability for your long gaming sessions. Each ear cup also has a nice fabric memory foam that offers really comfortable cushioning and ventilation. My ears never felt warm when gaming with the G522. This is easily one of the most comfortable wireless gaming headsets that I have tried on.
In addition, the G522 has side-facing RGB lighting (up to 16.8 million colours) on each ear cup. Anything with RGB lighting with add plenty of brownie points in terms of looks and style in my book.
The right ear cup is as clean as a whistle. But on the left ear cup, you will find all the controls including the power button, volume knob, Bluetooth pairing button, microphone-mute button. USB-C port (for both charging and wired connectivity) and audio port for the detachable microphone.

The attention to details is quite astonishing, as you will realise that each button and knob feels different to the touch. After a while, you will realise which is the microphone-mute button (more rough) or the Bluetooth button just by touch, instead of remembering their position.
A nice touch is an LED lighting up on the tip of the detachable microphone when it is muted. This way, you don’t need to take out the headset to double check if you are muted.
Of course, a gaming headset is ultimately judged by its audio output and voice clarity (microphone). And I am happy to say that its audio output is one of the best in the market. The bass offers plenty of oomph and you hear your NPC’s shouts and dialogue as clearly as you hear bullets swooshing past.

The microphone is said to be enhanced by BLUE VO!CE technology, which is supposed to ensure your voice will be heard even in the midst of virtual battle chaos. Well, so far, everyone in the virtual battles have been able to hear me loud and clear. It is also great for recording podcast or your Zoom calls.
You can use the G Hub desktop app to customise the sound output based on your preferences via a 10-band equaliser. If you are too lazy for that, there are also curated presets, such as Gaming, Gaming-FPS or Bass Boost, for you to choose from. The G522 also supports Spatial Audio, which you will need to install DTS Sound Unbound app. The G Hub app also lets you personalise the RGB lighting, adjust microphone settings and save up to three custom profiles directly to the headset.

Battery life is rated at up to 40 hours with default lighting and up to 90 hours without lighting. During my review, I found this to be quite accurate. The battery life dropped around 14 per cent after five hours of PC gaming via the LIGHTSPEED wireless connectivity.
You can also connect the headset to two devices as well. I used LIGHTSPEED for my PC gaming rig and Bluetooth for my Mac. This way, I can quickly toggle when I toggle between devices. The headset will remember the last connection used. So if you switch devices like I do, you will need to manually switch off the Bluetooth before powering down the headset.

I can hardly find any flaws about the G522 LIGHTSPEED, apart from being a bit expensive at S$239. Even then, there are gaming headsets that are way more expensive. So in all, I think it offers really good value for money.
VERDICT
Simply put, the Logitech G522 LIGHTSPEED is probably the best wireless gaming headset in the market right now. It might be a tad on the expensive side, but it is well worth the moolah. Easily, an Editor’s Choice!
