I have been using a 5th-generation 12.9-inch iPad Pro (launched in 2021) for a while. And I have been through many iPad cases as a result. So when the new Logitech Flip Folio was launched last month, I couldn’t help but want to review it. Even though my iPad is not officially supported.

From far, the Flip Folio looks like another iPad case with front and back protection. But it is one that comes with a magnetically-attached stowable Bluetooth keyboard. It is available in two colours of graphite and pale grey, as well as two sizes of 11 inches and 13 inches. Obviously, I am reviewing the 13-inch model in graphite colour.
Good news! For those with the same iPad as mine, you will be delighted to know that it fits. You probably need to slightly adjust the iPad to “fit” into camera hole of the case. There is also a slight spacing when you close the folio case. But overall, it fits.

The mini keyboard resides on a recessed exterior area of the folio case that protects the iPad screen. The keyboard has a small rubber tab on one end to help you easily remove it from the case. Not that you really need it. In fact, I feel the magnetic attachment needs to be stronger. There are times when I accidentally “brushed” the keyboard off the case. So, you might want to be careful.

To use the Flip Folio as a kickstand to prop up your iPad, you bend the recessed part of the case and flip it back behind the iPad. The hinge on the case is surprisingly strong and able to provide a tilting angle of up to 43 degrees.

Furthermore, you can remove the iPad from the case and put it on portrait orientation. There is a little latch on the folio case that lets you do so. You can even put your iPhone side by side. This way, you can browse the Internet on the iPad while replying to your WhatsApp message on the iPhone.

The keyboard is able to connect to three devices via Bluetooth. Thus, you can easily toggle between the devices using the the three EasySwitch keys found on the top row of the keyboard. Pairing one EasySwitch key to a device is really easy. Just do a long press on your desired EasySwitch key, and tap on the Bluetooth menu of your device to finish the pairing.
I don’t know if the 11-inch model’s keyboard will be too cramped, but the 13-inch model’s keyboard has the keys nicely spaced out. It never feel cramped and I can easily type without any mistakes. The keys also have a nice textured feel as well as great tactile feedback for a flat keyboard. There are also keys on the top row for functions like search, screen brightness and volume.

On the downside, the keyboard does not have any backlight. But I guess Logitech has prioritised battery life, as it claims the keyboard can last up to 2 years on four CR2016 batteries. I will let you know if this is true in two years’ time, I guess.
Additionally, when using the Flip Folio’s keyboard with my iPad, I do find myself wanting to use a “mouse”. You can of course pair your iPad with a mouse, but that means another extra item to carry on your back back.
For the 13-inch model, it might seem rather expensive at S$289. But if you consider Apple’s Magic Keyboard Case for iPad Pro 13-inch (M4) costs a whopping S$529, the Flip Folio is a bargain.

Of course, the Magic Keyboard gives you a trackpad, while its floating cantilever design offers multiple viewing angles. But the Flip Folio lets you have the flexibility of using it without the keyboard, just as a folio case. Something the Magic Keyboard cannot offer due to its integrated design.
VERDICT: For iPad users, the Logitech Flip Folio might just be the ideal keyboard case that you have been looking for. It lets you have the flexibility of having a folio case that protects the iPad’s front and back, while still offering a keyboard whenever you need it.
