<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Since forever, content creators, photographers, and illustrators always have a dilemma in choose a traditional, heavyweight laptop with a discrete GPU, or the featherweight portability of a under-powered tablet. With the launch of the Asus ProArt PZ14 (HT7407), Asus is making a bold play to eliminate that compromise entirely. </p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Price: S$4,499, get it at <a href="https://sg.store.asus.com/asus-proart-pz14-ht7407na-sn058w-laptop.html" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">ASUS Online Store</a></li>

<li>Graphics: Qualcomm Adreno X2-90 Integrated</li>

<li>Display: 14.0-inch 3K (2,880 x 1,800 pixels) Lumina Pro OLED, 16:10, 144Hz</li>

<li>Memory / Storage: 32GB LPDDR5X / 1TB M.2 NVMe PCIe 4.0 SSD</li>

<li>Weight: 0.79 kg (Tablet only)</li>

<li>Connectivity: 2x USB Type-C, SD Express 7.0 Card Reader, Wi-Fi 7</li>
</ul>

<figure class="wp-block-table is-style-stripes" style="font-style:normal;font-weight:700"><table class="has-fixed-layout"><tbody><tr><td>PROS</td><td>CONS</td></tr><tr><td>Great overall performance</td><td>Expensive</td></tr><tr><td>Works superbly as both tablet and laptop</td><td>Detachable keyboard&#8217;s key a tad cramped</td></tr><tr><td>Slim and lightweight </td><td>Only two USB-C ports</td></tr><tr><td>Bright and vivid display</td><td></td></tr><tr><td>Good battery life</td><td></td></tr></tbody></table></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Combining Qualcomm’s brand-new second-generation Snapdragon X2 Elite silicon with their renowned Lumina OLED displays, this 14-inch detachable 2-in-1 is built explicitly for creative professionals who treat the world as their office. But can a 9mm-thin Windows tablet truly shoulder heavy creative workloads, or does its hybrid form factor trip it up? Let’s find out.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img data-recalc-dims="1" fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" width="790" height="734" src="https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/asus-pz14-03.jpg?resize=790%2C734&#038;ssl=1" alt="" class="wp-image-4480" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/asus-pz14-03.jpg?resize=1024%2C952&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/asus-pz14-03.jpg?resize=300%2C279&amp;ssl=1 300w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/asus-pz14-03.jpg?resize=150%2C140&amp;ssl=1 150w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/asus-pz14-03.jpg?resize=768%2C714&amp;ssl=1 768w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/asus-pz14-03.jpg?resize=1536%2C1428&amp;ssl=1 1536w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/asus-pz14-03.jpg?w=2000&amp;ssl=1 2000w" sizes="(max-width: 790px) 100vw, 790px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">What you get from the package &#8211; plenty of accessories including the ASUS Pen 3.0 stylus and tablet sleeve. The tablet is in the box on the lower left. (Photo: Trevor Tan)</figcaption></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The very first thing you notice when unboxing the ProArt PZ14 is just how incredibly slim it feels. At a mere 9mm thick (which I have trouble photographing) and tipping the scales at just 0.79 kg for the tablet alone, it slips into a backpack almost unnoticed.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Asus has treated the aluminium chassis with a sleek &#8220;Nano Black&#8221; anodised finish. Not only does it give the machine a stealthy, premium look, but it uses an active silane resin coating that legitimately repels fingerprint smudges. A massive plus for a device meant to be handled constantly. Despite its thin profile, it boasts military-grade durability and an IP52 rating, meaning it can withstand the occasional dust patch or accidental splash during outdoor shoots.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img data-recalc-dims="1" decoding="async" width="790" height="650" src="https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/asus-pz14-01.jpg?resize=790%2C650&#038;ssl=1" alt="" class="wp-image-4482" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/asus-pz14-01.jpg?resize=1024%2C843&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/asus-pz14-01.jpg?resize=300%2C247&amp;ssl=1 300w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/asus-pz14-01.jpg?resize=150%2C123&amp;ssl=1 150w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/asus-pz14-01.jpg?resize=768%2C632&amp;ssl=1 768w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/asus-pz14-01.jpg?resize=1536%2C1264&amp;ssl=1 1536w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/asus-pz14-01.jpg?w=2000&amp;ssl=1 2000w" sizes="(max-width: 790px) 100vw, 790px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">Out of the box, there is a detachable Bluetooth keyboard as well as a rear cover. (Photo: Trevor Tan)</figcaption></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The box comes generously packed with the magnetic stand cover, a detachable Bluetooth keyboard with a precision trackpad, and the ASUS Pen 3.0 stylus. You can seamlessly transition from editing a photo series in Laptop Mode to sketching out concepts or illustrations freely in Tablet Mode. I might not be an artist, but sketching with the stylus is as smooth as silk on the display. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If there is a crown jewel on the PZ14, it is unequivocally the display. Asus has packed a gorgeous 14-inch, 3K (2,880 x 1,800 pixels) Lumina Pro OLED touchscreen into the frame. For photojournalists and graphic designers, colour accuracy is of paramount importance, and this screen hits it out of the park. It covers 98% of the DCI-P3 colour gamut, is PANTONE validated, and delivers an incredible 1,000 nits of peak HDR brightness.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img data-recalc-dims="1" decoding="async" width="790" height="457" src="https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/asus-pz14-05.jpg?resize=790%2C457&#038;ssl=1" alt="" class="wp-image-4484" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/asus-pz14-05.jpg?resize=1024%2C592&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/asus-pz14-05.jpg?resize=300%2C173&amp;ssl=1 300w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/asus-pz14-05.jpg?resize=150%2C87&amp;ssl=1 150w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/asus-pz14-05.jpg?resize=768%2C444&amp;ssl=1 768w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/asus-pz14-05.jpg?resize=1536%2C888&amp;ssl=1 1536w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/asus-pz14-05.jpg?w=2000&amp;ssl=1 2000w" sizes="(max-width: 790px) 100vw, 790px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">The tablet&#8217;s touchscreen display is bright and vivid. (Photo: Trevor Tan)</figcaption></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Working under the harsh afternoon glare at a local café is no issue at all, thanks to an effective anti-reflective coating. Furthermore, the display&#8217;s smooth 144Hz variable refresh rate makes scrolling, sketching, and scrubbing through timelines feel incredibly responsive.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Under the hood lies Qualcomm&#8217;s next-gen ARM architecture—the 18-core Snapdragon X2 Elite chip. Paired with a massive 32GB of RAM, this processor handles daily productivity tasks with zero hesitation. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img data-recalc-dims="1" loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="790" height="593" src="https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/asus-pz14-02.jpg?resize=790%2C593&#038;ssl=1" alt="" class="wp-image-4481" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/asus-pz14-02.jpg?resize=1024%2C768&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/asus-pz14-02.jpg?resize=300%2C225&amp;ssl=1 300w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/asus-pz14-02.jpg?resize=150%2C113&amp;ssl=1 150w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/asus-pz14-02.jpg?resize=768%2C576&amp;ssl=1 768w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/asus-pz14-02.jpg?resize=1536%2C1152&amp;ssl=1 1536w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/asus-pz14-02.jpg?w=2000&amp;ssl=1 2000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 790px) 100vw, 790px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">The ASUS Pen 3.0 stylus is silky smooth on the PZ14&#8217;s display. (Photo: Trevor Tan)</figcaption></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">On paper, the 2-in-1&#8217;s Hexagon NPU pushes a massive 80 TOPS of AI performance, opening up efficient on-device capabilities. In apps like Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom, complex tasks like subject masking or generative fills happen almost instantly. Great for content creators or photographers working on the go.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img data-recalc-dims="1" loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="790" height="593" src="https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/asus-pz14-07.jpg?resize=790%2C593&#038;ssl=1" alt="" class="wp-image-4486" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/asus-pz14-07.jpg?resize=1024%2C768&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/asus-pz14-07.jpg?resize=300%2C225&amp;ssl=1 300w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/asus-pz14-07.jpg?resize=150%2C113&amp;ssl=1 150w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/asus-pz14-07.jpg?resize=768%2C576&amp;ssl=1 768w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/asus-pz14-07.jpg?resize=1536%2C1152&amp;ssl=1 1536w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/asus-pz14-07.jpg?w=2000&amp;ssl=1 2000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 790px) 100vw, 790px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">The ASUS Pen 3.0 stylus can be seamlessly stored magnetically at the rear of the tablet, with the rear cover offering a nice compartment for it. (Photo: Trevor Tan)</figcaption></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Thermal management is handled by a single-fan chassis equipped with a smart 0 dB ambient cooling mode. During light photo organisation or document editing, the device runs completely silent. Even under heavier image processing loads, fan noise remains remarkably quiet.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Battery life is another massive win. The integrated 75Wh battery comfortably sailed through roughly 13 hours of continuous real-world creative use, meaning you can confidently leave the 68W USB-C charger at home for day trips.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img data-recalc-dims="1" loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="790" height="593" src="https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/asus-pz14-04.jpg?resize=790%2C593&#038;ssl=1" alt="" class="wp-image-4485" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/asus-pz14-04.jpg?resize=1024%2C768&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/asus-pz14-04.jpg?resize=300%2C225&amp;ssl=1 300w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/asus-pz14-04.jpg?resize=150%2C113&amp;ssl=1 150w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/asus-pz14-04.jpg?resize=768%2C576&amp;ssl=1 768w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/asus-pz14-04.jpg?resize=1536%2C1152&amp;ssl=1 1536w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/asus-pz14-04.jpg?w=2000&amp;ssl=1 2000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 790px) 100vw, 790px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">The detachable keyboard offers convenience, but the keys can feel a tad cramped. (Photo: Trevor Tan)</figcaption></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">No device is entirely perfect, and the PZ14&#8217;s biggest compromise stems from its hybrid nature. Because the keyboard attaches via a flat magnetic connector rather than a rigid physical hinge, typing on your lap can feel awkward and unstable. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The keyboard needs to sit completely flat on surfaces (not ideal for your lap), and the keys &#8211; while tactile with 1.7mm travel &#8211; can feel slightly cramped if you are typing long articles all day. While Windows 11 has made major strides in touchscreen optimisation, it still occasionally feels clunky to navigate solely with fingers compared to iPadOS.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img data-recalc-dims="1" loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="790" height="488" src="https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/asus-pz14-08.jpg?resize=790%2C488&#038;ssl=1" alt="" class="wp-image-4491" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/asus-pz14-08.jpg?resize=1024%2C633&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/asus-pz14-08.jpg?resize=300%2C186&amp;ssl=1 300w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/asus-pz14-08.jpg?resize=150%2C93&amp;ssl=1 150w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/asus-pz14-08.jpg?resize=768%2C475&amp;ssl=1 768w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/asus-pz14-08.jpg?resize=1536%2C950&amp;ssl=1 1536w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/asus-pz14-08.jpg?w=2000&amp;ssl=1 2000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 790px) 100vw, 790px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">These are the only ports you are getting with the PZ14. (Photo: Trevor Tan)</figcaption></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Port selection is also minimal due to the thin chassis: you get two USB4 Type-C ports and an SD Express 7.0 card reader. While the SD reader is a massive boon for photographers transferring RAW files on the go, you will still need a dongle if you rely heavily on legacy USB-A gear.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">VERDICT: The Asus ProArt PZ14 (HT7407) is a beautifully realised piece of hardware that showcases exactly where the future of mobile creation is heading. At S$4,499, it is undeniably a premium investment tool.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If you are a writer or an office executive who needs to type thousands of words a day on a lap, a traditional laptop might suit you better. However, if you are an artist, photographer, or visual creator looking for an incredibly bright, highly accurate digital canvas that packs desktop-grade AI muscle into a sub-1kg frame, the ASUS ProArt PZ14 stands out as a phenomenal companion.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">ASUS is doubling down on mobile creators with the launch of its most powerful creator tablet to date: the all-new ASUS ProArt PZ14. Announced for the Singapore market, this 14-inch detachable Copilot+ PC is designed specifically for creative professionals who need high-performance computing on the move, whether working out in the field, in a studio, or in hybrid production setups.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Under the hood, the ProArt PZ14 packs a serious punch. It is powered by Qualcomm’s flagship 18-core Snapdragon X2 Elite processor, combined with a Qualcomm Adreno GPU and an integrated Hexagon NPU capable of up to 80 TOPs of AI processing power. This setup enables heavy on-device AI workloads, such as complex video editing, audio clean-up, and image enhancement, running smoothly with reduced latency without relying on external cloud resources.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img data-recalc-dims="1" loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="790" height="526" src="https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/PZ14-Scenario-photo_05.jpg?resize=790%2C526&#038;ssl=1" alt="" class="wp-image-4264" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/PZ14-Scenario-photo_05.jpg?resize=1024%2C682&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/PZ14-Scenario-photo_05.jpg?resize=300%2C200&amp;ssl=1 300w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/PZ14-Scenario-photo_05.jpg?resize=150%2C100&amp;ssl=1 150w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/PZ14-Scenario-photo_05.jpg?resize=768%2C512&amp;ssl=1 768w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/PZ14-Scenario-photo_05.jpg?resize=1536%2C1024&amp;ssl=1 1536w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/PZ14-Scenario-photo_05.jpg?w=2000&amp;ssl=1 2000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 790px) 100vw, 790px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">The PZ14 has been tested to pass strict US military-grade MIL-STD 810H durability standards and carries an IP52 rating for dust and water resistance. <p class="wp-block-paragraph">To support these intensive creative workflows, the tablet comes configured with 32GB of LPDDR5X memory and 1TB PCIe 4.0 SSD, giving creators plenty of room and speed to manage massive media libraries. Keeping everything cool and quiet is ASUS’s 0dB cooling technology, ensuring completely silent operation during lighter tasks and low noise levels under load.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">For visual professionals, colour accuracy is everything. And the ProArt PZ14 features a gorgeous 14-inch 3K (2,800 x 1,800 pixels) ASUS Lumina Pro OLED touchscreen with a 16:10 aspect ratio. The panel delivers 100% DCI-P3 colour gamut coverage, Delta E &lt;1 colour accuracy, and is Pantone Validated. With a 144Hz variable refresh rate and a blistering 0.2 ms response time, motion-heavy work like animation and video scrubbing should be buttery smooth. It also reaches a peak HDR brightness of 1,000 nits and carries VESA DisplayHDR True Black 1000 certification. It comes with an anti-reflection coating that reduces glare by 65% , while its TÜV Rheinland-certified eye-care features cut down harmful blue light by 70% to prevent fatigue during marathon editing sessions.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Despite the heavy-duty specifications, the ProArt PZ14 is highly portable. It features a CNC-machined aluminium unibody chassis finished in an elegant, fingerprint-resistant Nano Black. The tablet itself is incredibly slim at just 9mm and tips the scales at a mere 0.79kg. Crucially for field photographers and videographers, it doesn’t sacrifice ruggedness for style. It has been tested to pass strict US military-grade MIL-STD 810H durability standards and carries an IP52 rating for dust and water resistance.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The tablet transforms into a full-fledged workstation via a suite of included modular accessories. It comes with a detachable Bluetooth keyboard crafted with a stable typing angle and a smudge-resistant leather finish, alongside a magnetic stand cover that allows seamless switching between laptop, tablet, and portrait modes. Sketching and note-taking are handled by the ASUS Pen 3.0 stylus, which features 4,096 pressure levels, haptic feedback to simulate a real pen-on-paper feel, and convenient magnetic wireless charging.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Its connectivity options include ultrafast WiFi 7, an SD Express 7.0 card reader for lightning-fast media transfers, and two 40Gbps USB4 ports that support fast charging and external displays. A large 75Wh battery ensures you can pull through an all-day production cycle away from a wall socket.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The ASUS ProArt PZ14 (S$4,499)<strong> </strong>is available now for pre-order in Singapore via the ASUS Exclusive Store, the <a href="https://www.asus.com/sg/laptops/for-creators/proart/proart-pz14-ht7407/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">ASUS Online Store</a>, as well as all authorised local retailers. It will be available from 10 June 2026 onwards. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">To be honest, the ASUS ROG Ally X is the first Windows gaming handheld I reviewed. In my previous previous job, my then-colleague was the one handling (pun intended) this genre. Still, I think any gamer will love the notion of able to play Windows games on the move. So, I was rubbing my hands in glee when I received the review unit.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The Ally X features a vibrant 7-inch display with 120Hz refresh rate, 24GB of RAM, 1TB solid-state drive (SSD), AMD Radeon Graphics and AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor &#8211; all in a sleek design that weighs just around 680g. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img data-recalc-dims="1" loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="790" height="407" src="https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/ROG-Ally-X-02.jpg?resize=790%2C407&#038;ssl=1" alt="" class="wp-image-2654" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/ROG-Ally-X-02.jpg?resize=1024%2C528&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/ROG-Ally-X-02.jpg?resize=1536%2C792&amp;ssl=1 1536w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/ROG-Ally-X-02.jpg?resize=2048%2C1056&amp;ssl=1 2048w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/ROG-Ally-X-02.jpg?resize=150%2C77&amp;ssl=1 150w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/ROG-Ally-X-02.jpg?resize=300%2C155&amp;ssl=1 300w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/ROG-Ally-X-02.jpg?resize=768%2C396&amp;ssl=1 768w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/ROG-Ally-X-02.jpg?w=2370&amp;ssl=1 2370w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 790px) 100vw, 790px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">You can easily play games like Diablo IV on the Ally X. <p class="wp-block-paragraph">As you might expect from a gaming handheld, there are two mini-joysticks &#8211; one on each side of the display &#8211; with the A/D/X/Y buttons on the right side and a D-pad on the left side of the display. There are also the bumpers and triggers on the top of the side grips as well as two paddle buttons at the rear of the handheld.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img data-recalc-dims="1" loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="790" height="470" src="https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/ROG-Ally-X-03.jpg?resize=790%2C470&#038;ssl=1" alt="" class="wp-image-2659" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/ROG-Ally-X-03.jpg?resize=1024%2C609&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/ROG-Ally-X-03.jpg?resize=1536%2C914&amp;ssl=1 1536w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/ROG-Ally-X-03.jpg?resize=150%2C89&amp;ssl=1 150w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/ROG-Ally-X-03.jpg?resize=300%2C179&amp;ssl=1 300w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/ROG-Ally-X-03.jpg?resize=768%2C457&amp;ssl=1 768w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/ROG-Ally-X-03.jpg?w=2000&amp;ssl=1 2000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 790px) 100vw, 790px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">All the buttons and controls are well thought. (Photo: Trevor Tan)</figcaption></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">On top of the display, you will find the power/fingerprint sensor, microSD card slot and a 3.5mm audio jack beside the right bumper. Beside the left bumper, you find the volume control, one USB-C port and one Thunderbolt 4 port. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img data-recalc-dims="1" loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="790" height="516" src="https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/ROG-Ally-X-04.jpg?resize=790%2C516&#038;ssl=1" alt="" class="wp-image-2658" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/ROG-Ally-X-04.jpg?resize=1024%2C669&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/ROG-Ally-X-04.jpg?resize=1536%2C1003&amp;ssl=1 1536w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/ROG-Ally-X-04.jpg?resize=150%2C98&amp;ssl=1 150w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/ROG-Ally-X-04.jpg?resize=300%2C196&amp;ssl=1 300w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/ROG-Ally-X-04.jpg?resize=768%2C502&amp;ssl=1 768w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/ROG-Ally-X-04.jpg?w=2000&amp;ssl=1 2000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 790px) 100vw, 790px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">There are USB-C ports available on this device. (Photo: Trevor Tan)</figcaption></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Overall, the ergonomics are superb with the button placement well thought out. The sides are more rounded with comfortable grips that allow you to game longer in comfort. Talking about gaming longer, the Ally X comes with a 80Wh battery that is rated to give you 2.7 hours of heavy gaming for triple-A titles or 14.5 hours of Netflix video playback. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Of course, the Ally X&#8217;s battery life depends on what kind of games at what resolution and brightness you are playing. During my tests, I found the battery level dropped by 25 per cent when playing Metro Exodus at 1080p 75% brightness and 27W for around an hour. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The device does get a bit warm during extended play, something not unexpected but you probably have to be mindful about. On the upside, the internal cooling fans are never too loud, so your fellow passengers on MRT will never know you are slaughtering some virtual beasts.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img data-recalc-dims="1" loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="790" height="399" src="https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/ROG-Ally-X-06.jpg?resize=790%2C399&#038;ssl=1" alt="" class="wp-image-2656" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/ROG-Ally-X-06.jpg?resize=1024%2C517&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/ROG-Ally-X-06.jpg?resize=1536%2C776&amp;ssl=1 1536w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/ROG-Ally-X-06.jpg?resize=2048%2C1034&amp;ssl=1 2048w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/ROG-Ally-X-06.jpg?resize=150%2C76&amp;ssl=1 150w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/ROG-Ally-X-06.jpg?resize=300%2C152&amp;ssl=1 300w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/ROG-Ally-X-06.jpg?resize=768%2C388&amp;ssl=1 768w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/ROG-Ally-X-06.jpg?w=2370&amp;ssl=1 2370w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 790px) 100vw, 790px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">The cooling fans are quiet, despite you feeling the &#8220;wind&#8221; through these vents. (Photo: Trevor Tan)</figcaption></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Gameplay wise, the Ally X is excellent for many games. Without the device plugged to power and using around 27W, I was able to play Metro Exodus at up to 120 frames per second (fps), Cyberpunk 2077 at around 60fps and Diablo IV at 35fps. Even with Cyperpunk 2077, the movements are smooth with no visible screen tearing. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img data-recalc-dims="1" loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="790" height="461" src="https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/ROG-Ally-X-05.jpg?resize=790%2C461&#038;ssl=1" alt="" class="wp-image-2657" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/ROG-Ally-X-05.jpg?resize=1024%2C598&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/ROG-Ally-X-05.jpg?resize=1536%2C897&amp;ssl=1 1536w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/ROG-Ally-X-05.jpg?resize=150%2C88&amp;ssl=1 150w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/ROG-Ally-X-05.jpg?resize=300%2C175&amp;ssl=1 300w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/ROG-Ally-X-05.jpg?resize=768%2C449&amp;ssl=1 768w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/ROG-Ally-X-05.jpg?w=2000&amp;ssl=1 2000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 790px) 100vw, 790px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">Just look at the fantastic graphics of Metro Exodus here. (Photo: Trevor Tan)</figcaption></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It is great that ASUS&#8217; Armory Crate SD software supports a wide range of gaming platforms, including Steam, GOG Store, UbiConnect and Xbox Game Pass, making it easy to access a vast library of games. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The biggest issue though with Ally X is not about Ally X, but the software that it is running on. Something that is out of ASUS&#8217; hands. While the Armory Crate is actually great in consolidating all games in one place, installing other non-game applications, moving windows around or even tapping &#8220;Yes&#8221; can be a chore as the user interface (UI) is just not meant for touchscreen. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img data-recalc-dims="1" loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="790" height="366" src="https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/ROG-Ally-X-08.jpg?resize=790%2C366&#038;ssl=1" alt="" class="wp-image-2661" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/ROG-Ally-X-08.jpg?resize=1024%2C475&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/ROG-Ally-X-08.jpg?resize=1536%2C713&amp;ssl=1 1536w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/ROG-Ally-X-08.jpg?resize=150%2C70&amp;ssl=1 150w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/ROG-Ally-X-08.jpg?resize=300%2C139&amp;ssl=1 300w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/ROG-Ally-X-08.jpg?resize=768%2C356&amp;ssl=1 768w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/ROG-Ally-X-08.jpg?w=2000&amp;ssl=1 2000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 790px) 100vw, 790px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">Cyberpunk 2077 looks so good on the ROG Ally X as well. (Photo: Trevor Tan)</figcaption></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Touchscreen really needs a separate UI, which is why Apple has iPadOS for its tablets. Windows&#8217; UI is still pretty much a mouse-and-keyboard UI and until Microsoft created a handheld version of Windows, handheld gaming will always be hampered.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Pricing might be on an issue as well. While S$1,199 is not really expensive for the features and value that Ally X brings you, it still only serves one function &#8211; primarily gaming. A gaming laptop would at least allow you to do your work or studies on it.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">VERDICT: The ASUS ROG Ally X is a superb Windows gaming handheld that caters to all the needs of any mobile PC gamer with its smooth performance, great ergonomics and decent battery life. Its greatest flaw is not even its fault, but that of Microsoft&#8217;s Windows not handheld friendly. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The Asus ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 (2022) is a powerful laptop designed to provide gamers with an immersive gaming experience wherever they are.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This laptop features a unique dual-screen design with a 16-inch (3,840 x 2,400 pixels) primary display and a secondary 14-inch (3,840 x 1,100 pixels) ScreenPad Plus display. The ScreenPad Plus is an interactive touchscreen that provides you with additional tools and options for gaming.</p>

<li>Battery: 90Wh</li>

<li>Weight: 2.55kg</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">When the review unit rolled in, I was surprised by its massive box that you can probably use as a coffee table. However, it gives you everything you need for a mobile hardcore PC gamer.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img data-recalc-dims="1" loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="790" height="599" src="https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/Zephyrus-Duo-Box.jpg?resize=790%2C599&#038;ssl=1" alt="" class="wp-image-1762" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/Zephyrus-Duo-Box.jpg?resize=1024%2C776&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/Zephyrus-Duo-Box.jpg?resize=300%2C227&amp;ssl=1 300w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/Zephyrus-Duo-Box.jpg?resize=768%2C582&amp;ssl=1 768w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/Zephyrus-Duo-Box.jpg?resize=1536%2C1164&amp;ssl=1 1536w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/Zephyrus-Duo-Box.jpg?resize=2048%2C1552&amp;ssl=1 2048w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/Zephyrus-Duo-Box.jpg?w=2370&amp;ssl=1 2370w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 790px) 100vw, 790px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">Image my surprise when this rolled in. (Photo: Trevor Tan)</figcaption></figure>
</div>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Apart from the laptop, the package includes a ROG Ranger BP2701 gaming backpack, a ROG Delta wired gaming headset, a ROG Chakram Core P511 wired gaming mouse and a palm rest. Considering its jaw-dropping price tag of S$7,998, I actually thought there will be more gaming peripherals to be included.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img data-recalc-dims="1" loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="790" height="586" src="https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/Zephyrus-Duo-Box-1.jpg?resize=790%2C586&#038;ssl=1" alt="" class="wp-image-1765" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/Zephyrus-Duo-Box-1.jpg?resize=1024%2C760&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/Zephyrus-Duo-Box-1.jpg?resize=300%2C223&amp;ssl=1 300w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/Zephyrus-Duo-Box-1.jpg?resize=768%2C570&amp;ssl=1 768w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/Zephyrus-Duo-Box-1.jpg?resize=1536%2C1140&amp;ssl=1 1536w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/Zephyrus-Duo-Box-1.jpg?w=1850&amp;ssl=1 1850w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 790px) 100vw, 790px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">What you get out of the box. (Photo: Trevor Tan)</figcaption></figure>
</div>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Back to the laptop, the ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 is a superbly built laptop that feels sturdy and robust. Not to mention, this laptop is always going to draw glances of envy each time you pull it out of your bag.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Tipping the scales at 2.55kg, it can be considered quite lightweight by gaming laptop standards. It looks sleek and stylish with its stealthy black lid with dotted patterns, a luminous line cutting across at 45 degrees with the &#8220;Republic of Gamers&#8221; tagline and a ROG logo on the other side. Furthermore, it has a matte finish that helps to reduce fingerprints and smudges. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-table is-style-stripes"><table><tbody><tr><td class="has-text-align-center" data-align="center">PROS</td><td class="has-text-align-center" data-align="center">CONS</td></tr><tr><td class="has-text-align-center" data-align="center">Sleek design</td><td class="has-text-align-center" data-align="center">Very expensive</td></tr><tr><td class="has-text-align-center" data-align="center">Two screens better than one</td><td class="has-text-align-center" data-align="center">Battery life can be better</td></tr><tr><td class="has-text-align-center" data-align="center">Superb gaming performance</td><td class="has-text-align-center" data-align="center"></td></tr><tr><td class="has-text-align-center" data-align="center">Responsive keyboard and touchpad</td><td class="has-text-align-center" data-align="center"></td></tr></tbody></table></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">At its sides and rear, there are air ventilation vents that will not look out of place in a sports car. On its left side, you can find the power point, a USB-A port, a Thunderbolt 4 port and a microSD card slot. There is another USB-A port, a HDMI 2.1 port and a Ethernet port at its rear, while there is a lone USB-C port on the right.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Lift the lid and you will be greeted with the two gorgeous displays. The main display can only tilted up to 50 degrees, while the secondary display is set up to 15 degrees.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img data-recalc-dims="1" loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="790" height="666" src="https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/Zephyrus-Duo-Lighting-Alone.jpg?resize=790%2C666&#038;ssl=1" alt="" class="wp-image-1764" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/Zephyrus-Duo-Lighting-Alone.jpg?resize=1024%2C863&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/Zephyrus-Duo-Lighting-Alone.jpg?resize=300%2C253&amp;ssl=1 300w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/Zephyrus-Duo-Lighting-Alone.jpg?resize=768%2C647&amp;ssl=1 768w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/Zephyrus-Duo-Lighting-Alone.jpg?resize=1536%2C1295&amp;ssl=1 1536w, https://i0.wp.com/trevortan.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/Zephyrus-Duo-Lighting-Alone.jpg?w=2000&amp;ssl=1 2000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 790px) 100vw, 790px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">The lighting effects can be quite a sight. (Photo: Trevor Tan)</figcaption></figure>
</div>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The main display offers a refresh rate of up to 165Hz, which is great for gaming. But the secondary display only has a refresh rate of 60Hz. In any case, you probably using the main display to game, while using the secondary display for checking hints and walkthroughs.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Below the secondary display, you will find the RGB-backlit keyboard with a large touchpad on its right. The keyboard offers a great tactile typing experience with nice key travel. The touchpad is also very responsive. But due to the laptop&#8217;s lack of wrist rest, typing on the keyboard is a tad awkward as you need to rest your wrist on a table or on &#8220;air&#8221; if the laptop is at the edge of a table.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">However, in terms of performance, the Zephyrus Duo 16 is capable of running any game at high settings as long as you use the power brick included. For instance, running Cyberpunk 2077 at Ray Tracing: Ultra setting clocks an average of 27.7 frames per second. You can see the intricate details on the surface of cars and as you walk through Night City, you can the realistic lighting effects in all its glory.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In the PCMark 10 benchmark test, this laptop scored an impressive 6,987, bettering the likes of 2022 Razer Blade 15 Advanced Model (score of 6,886) and Alienware x15’s (score of 6,711).</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Most importantly, in the Digital Content Creation category, it scored a stunning 9,950. In other words, it can easily handle demanding tasks like video editing and 3D rendering tasks.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Gaming laptops are not renowned for their battery life and the Zephyrus Duo 16 is no exception. In our video-loop battery test whereby a HD video is looped only on the main display but with both displays at full brightness, it lasted only 4 hours 28 minutes. Not bad for a gaming laptop, but not good if you are gaming on the go.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">VERDICT: Apart from its astronomical price tag and mediocre battery life, the ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 GX650 is an impressive gaming laptop with dual screens and superb performance. It is a dream laptop for hardcore gamers to play games on the go. But probably a fantastic overkill for many others.</p>
