Samsung has officially unveiled the Galaxy Z TriFold, a triple foldable smartphone that marks the South Korea chaebol’s boldest leap into next‑generation mobile design. When folded, it has 6.5-inch display. But it unfolds twice to reveal an expansive 10‑inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display, the largest ever on a Galaxy phone.

When fully unfolded, the 10‑inch display operates like three 6.5‑inch smartphone screens working side‑by‑side, enabling seamless multitasking with multi‑window and a redesigned taskbar. It is also the first phone to offer standalone Samsung DeX, allowing up to four virtual desktops and support for a full desktop‑style workflow with peripherals and extended dual‑screen mode.

Despite its size when open, the Galaxy Z TriFold maintains an impressively slim profile, measuring just 3.9 mm at its thinnest point. The multi‑fold structure is supported by Samsung’s most advanced Armor FlexHinge system, featuring two differently sized hinges engineered to fold smoothly while keeping the device portable and durable. Reinforced display layers, titanium hinge housing, and an Advanced Armor Aluminum frame round out a design built for longevity.

(Photo: Samsung)

Powering the TriFold is a customised Snapdragon 8 Elite Mobile Platform for Galaxy, paired with a three‑cell 5,600 mAh battery that is the largest in any Samsung foldable. The device includes a 200-megapixel main camera, 45W fast charging, and a bright display with up to 2600 nits on the cover screen.

Samsung said it is integrating the device deeply with Galaxy AI (artificial intelligence), including enhanced creative tools like Generative Edit, Sketch to Image, improved split‑view editing, and expanded multimodal features through Gemini Live. Users can ask contextual questions, analyse what’s on screen, or receive real‑time recommendations, to leverage AI in ways that feel native to the large display.

For entertainment, the TriFold’s tablet‑sized screen offers a cinematic viewing experience with minimised creasing and smooth 120 Hz visuals. And when the show is over, it folds neatly back into a pocket‑friendly slab.

The Galaxy Z TriFold launches first in Korea on December 12, 2025, followed by releases in countries such as US, China, UAE and Singapore. The triple smartphone will start retailing in Singapore on December 19, but pricing is yet to be confirmed.

The only triple foldable smartphone available in Singapore is Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design, which retails at S$3,498.

The Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold is the latest addition to its foldable lineup, promising durability, cutting-edge AI, and a folding experience that rivals its competitors. But does it deliver on all promises, or is it just another iteration with minor refinements? Let’s find out!

Price: From S$2,399, get it at Shopee, Lazada and Google Store

Inner screen: 8 inches, 2,076 x 2,152 pixels

Outer screen: 6.4 inches, 1,080 x 2,364 pixels

Processor: Google Tensor G5

Rear Cameras: 48 MP, f/1.7 (wide); 10.8 MP, f/3.1 (telephoto), 5x optical zoom; 10.5 MP, f/2.2 (ultra-wide)

Selfie camera: 10MP, f/2,2 (wide)

Cover camera: 10MP, f/2.2 (wide)

Weight: 258g

PROS

CONS

First foldable with IP68 dust and water resistance

Expensive

Durable gear-less hinge

Thicker and heavier than competitors

Great multitasking on the 8-inch inner display

Cameras cannot match Pixel 10 Pro XL

Excellent AI features like Magic Cue

Battery life can be better

Decent cameras

Seven years of OS and security updates

If there is just one headline feature of the Pixel 10 Pro Fold to talk about, it will be durability. This is the first foldable phone to achieve an IP68 rating, making it dust- and water-resistant (down to depths of 1.5m for 30 mins). This is a significant step forward for foldable smartphones. Samsung’s latest Galaxy Z Fold7, by comparison, has a lower IP48 rating. That said, it is still not advisable to throw the Pixel 10 Pro Fold into the sand or dunk it in water. The phone did survive the constant rain of Taipei when I was there for vacation.

The crease here is more visible than its competitors. (Photo: Trevor Tan)

In addition, Google has ditched the traditional gear-based hinge mechanism, opting for a gear-less hinge made from multi-alloy steel with an aerospace-grade aluminium alloy cover. This gear-less hinge is said to enhance durability. However, the durability comes at the cost of portability.

At 258g, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold is heavier than competitors like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 (215g) or the Honor Magic V5 (217g). The Pro Fold’s thickness when folded (10.8mm) also makes it feel chunkier, especially when compared to its competitors’ sleek design (less than 9mm thin).

While the wider aspect ratio of the cover display makes typing easier, the device’s heft might be a dealbreaker for users prioritising portability. But for me, I will gladly accept the extra thickness and weight if it means the phone is more durable. Not to mention, the thickness actually meant I can pry open and unfold the Pixel 10 Pro Fold easier compared to those thinner foldable smartphones.

When folded, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold offers a good grip. (Photo: Trevor Tan)

The Pixel 10 Pro Fold features a 6.4-inch outer OLED screen and an 8-inch inner OLED screen, both with a 120Hz refresh rate. The brighter displays are a welcome upgrade, with the cover screen reaching up to 1,180 nits of brightness. The dynamic refresh rate is well-implemented, offering a smooth experience across various usage scenarios.

The unfolded 8-inch display is a boon for multitasking with its intuitive split screen feature, allowing you to quickly put two apps side by side. You can even drag and drop documents from one app to another this way.

The Split Screen feature is great for multitasking. (Photo: Trevor Tan)

In addition, for some supported games like Asphalt Legends, you can use one half of the inner screen for controls, and the other half to see where your car is going.

However, the inner screen still struggles with visibility under direct sunlight due to its protective film. Also, the crease on the folding display remains pretty visible, unlike its competitors that have reduced the crease.

Under the hood, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold is powered by Google’s Tensor G5 chip, manufactured on TSMC’s 3-nanometer process. While the chip offers solid day-to-day performance and excellent efficiency, it doesn’t quite compete with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon series in raw power when it comes to gaming, especially for graphics-intensive games like Genshin Impact and even Asphalt Legends.

Playing games like Asphalt Legends in dual screen mode is fantastic. (Photo: Trevor Tan)

That said, for most, the clean Android 16 experience ensure smooth multitasking and responsive performance. Google leans heavily into AI with the Pixel 10 Pro Fold. For instance, Magic Cue, a contextual assistant, is a standout feature. It provides timely information by pulling data from Google apps—like suggesting your flight details in a conversation or offering restaurant recommendations based on your browsing.

However, its functionality is limited to Google’s ecosystem, leaving popular third-party apps like WhatsApp and Telegram unsupported. Other AI features, like Auto Best Take for group photos, add value to the user experience. Furthermore, you get 7 years of OS and security updates.

The Pixel 10 Pro Fold retains the same camera setup as its predecessor, with a 48-megapixel (MP) main wide-angle camera, 10.5MP ultra-wide camera, and 10.8MP 5x telephoto lens. While the cameras perform admirably for a foldable, they fall short of its cousin Pixel 10 Pro XL, which boasts superior sensors. The 5x telephoto lens offers great zoom capabilities, but detail can suffer in low-light conditions.

This shot taken in one of the wet nights in Taipei.
Thankfully, Google’s computational photography shines in night mode, delivering excellent results even in challenging lighting. Overall, the cameras are pretty good for a foldable smartphone but not exceptional for a device in this price range.

The Pixel 10 Pro Fold packs a 5,015mAh battery, which is respectable but not class-leading. Battery life varies significantly depending on usage. On lighter days, the phone can last up to 40 hours, but heavy use of the inner screen on 5G can drain it within 28 hours.

In other words, I think you will probably want to charge the phone when you go to bed. The device supports 30W wired charging and 15W Qi2 wireless charging, though it does not come with a charger in the box.

VERDICT: The Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold is a solid foldable that pushes the boundaries of durability and AI integration. But it is not without its flaws. However, for those who value Google’s seamless Android experience, convenient AI features, and a device that feels both like a phone and a tablet, the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold is a great choice.

This smartphone allows for three screen modes – single screen of 6.4 inches, dual screen of 7.9 inches and triple screen of 10.2 inches. This makes it the world’s largest foldable smartphone. Yet, according to its maker, it is also the thinnest foldable smartphone with a thickness of 3.6mm when fully unfolded.

On its back is an ultra-thin leather that measures only 0.47mm for that extra sophistication and smooth feel. The Mate XT comes with a rear triple-camera system consisting of a 50-megapixel (MP) main camera, 12MP ultra-wide-angle camera and a 12MP telephoto camera.

It’s 24 hours since Apple launched a slew of products including AirPods Pro 3, new Apple Watch models, iPhone 17 series, and probably the highlight of them all – the iPhone Air. It marks the third time that Apple has splashed the “Air” moniker on its products, first being the MacBook Air and second, the iPad Air.

At 5.6mm thing and 165g light, Apple said it is a breakthrough design being the thinnest iPhone ever but more durable than any previous iPhone. While the device itself might be a marvel on its own, it feels more like a stepping stone toward something bigger: a foldable iPhone (P/S: above feature photo of foldable iPhone is generated using AI).

Apple iPhone Air, quite literally. (Photo: Apple)

By focusing on creating the lightest and thinnest iPhone yet, Apple is likely preparing itself to tackle the added complexity of foldable designs. The balance between durability and portability will be key in any foldable iPhone, and the Air might be the testing ground for those advancements. Flexible displays require robust yet pliable materials, and the iPhone Air’s advancements suggest Apple might be inching closer to displays that can withstand folding without sacrificing quality.

Moreover, Apple has historically been cautious about adopting new technologies – preferring to wait until they are perfected before rolling out to the market. The iPhone Air’s display could be a precursor to Apple’s first flexible screens that meet its exacting standards.

Another key aspect of the iPhone Air is its use of new composite materials to achieve durability while reducing weight. Foldable devices are notorious for wear-and-tear issues, particularly at the hinge and along the fold line. And Apple’s work on the iPhone Air could be seen as a precursor to developing materials and structures robust enough to handle the stresses of hundred of thousands of folds without failure.

Indeed, Apple has filed patents in recent years for self-healing materials and advanced hinge mechanisms, further indicating its interest in foldable designs. The lightweight materials, such as titanium frame (which exceeds stringent bend strength requirements according to Apple) and Ceramic Shield, used in the iPhone Air could be the foundation for future foldables.

Apple iPhone Air comes in four colours. (Photo: Apple)

A foldable iPhone wouldn’t just require hardware changes—it would need software to match. For instance, foldables often offer split-screen functionality and seamless transitions between folded and unfolded states. Apple’s work on dynamic software experiences, such as Liquid Glass design with smooth transitions, in the upcoming iOS 26 (and probably future iOS) could be another sign that the company is laying the groundwork for a foldable future.

Historically, Apple has taken a deliberate and incremental approach to new product categories. Before launching the Apple Watch, Apple first focused on health and fitness features in the iPhone and the Health app. Similarly, before the iPad Pro, Apple introduced multitasking features to iOS. The iPhone Air might follow this pattern—an intermediate step that allows Apple to perfect the technologies that will eventually power a foldable iPhone.

Foldable smartphones have gained much traction in recent years, with Samsung leading the charge through its Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip series. Chinese smartphone makers, like Honor and Oppo, have caught up with South Korean electronic giant, and in some respects outdone the chaebol. Apple has been seen lagging behind. But Apple doesn’t follow trends; it usually reshapes them.

Historically, Apple has often avoided rushing into new product categories or genres. In fact, it has a history of entering markets only when it feels it can deliver a superior experience (just think about the original iPhone). The iPhone Air might be Apple’s way of signalling that it’s getting closer to entering the foldable race.

While the iPhone Air may not fold, it’s not difficult to imagine it as a stepping stone toward that future. If and when Apple does enter the foldable market, it’s likely to do so with a device that redefines what foldables can be. For now, the iPhone Air feels like a tantalising prelude to that eventual fold.

The Honor Magic V5 is the latest entrant in the foldable smartphone market that has been dominated by the likes of Samsung. But Chinese smartphone makers like Vivo, Oppo and Honor, have been punching above their weight in this genre recently and the Honor Magic V5 is the latest testament.

A nice touch is the inclusion of a phone cover. (Photo: Trevor Tan)

To start, the Magic V5’s design is one of its standout features. Coming in four colours of Dawn Gold, Silk Brown, Black and Ivory White (version tested), this smartphone is really a beauty. At only 4.1mm when open, 8.88mm thin when folded (not including the camera module) and weighing 217g, this is an ultra-thin, lightweight foldable smartphone with an aluminium frame and a nearly gapless hinge. It really feels like you are using a normal “slab” smartphone when the phone is folded. Thus, it is still great for one-hand use.

Even when closed, the Magic V5 is almost as thin as any “slab” smartphone (here with Google Pixel 8 Pro) in the market.

Honor claims to have improved the hinge mechanism, making it more durable and less prone to visible creases on the inner display—a key pain point for other foldables. I would not know about the hinge durability, but if you look at the inner screen from the front, you can hardly make out the hinge crease. You will only see the crease at an angle. Perhaps, the only downer is the large camera module that adds to the thickness of the phone. But it is a minor issue.

Not to mention, the 7.95-inch OLED inner screen is stunning, boasting a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate with deep blacks, vivid colours, and excellent brightness whether you are watching movies, gaming, or multitasking. The 6.43-inch outer screen is equally impressive, offering a compact yet fully functional screen for quick tasks and one-handed use.

Under the hood, the Magic V5 is powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Gen Elite processor, paired with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage (only configuration available in Singapore). Whether you are running demanding apps, gaming, or multitasking with multiple windows, performance is lag free and as smooth as silk.

Running on MagicOS 8.0, based on Android 13, the Magic V5 delivers an intuitive user experience. The software has been optimised for foldable screens, with features like split-screen (up to three screens) multitasking, floating windows and app continuity when switching between the screens. While you can share photos with Mac or iOS devices using Honor Share, it is not as intuitive and straightforward as AirDrop. You will require an extra few steps to complete even a simple photo transfer.

Of course, everyone takes photos with their smartphones these days. The Magic V5 is equipped with a versatile triple-camera setup, This camera system consists of a powerful 64-megapixel (MP) periscope telephoto camera capable of up to 3.5x zoom and up to 100x hybrid zoom, alongside a 50MP wide camera and a 50MP ultra-wide camera.

The photos are crisp, with excellent dynamic range and natural colour reproduction. Low light performance is also commendable, enhances details and reduces noise in darker environments.
The Magic V5 comes with a 5,820mAh silicon-carbon battery and it supports 66W wired fast charging, which theoretically can top up the phone from 0 to 100% in under 45 minutes. In practice, I just know it charges very fast that I didn’t even have time to properly time it. While it can be charged folded, it will remind you to unfold the smartphone for more efficient and faster charging. It also supports 50W wireless charging.

Mileage will differ depending on your usage. During the review, I found that there is usually around 45% battery charge left after a day of regularly checking emails, social media and light gaming, such as Pokemon Go and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang. Basically, I don’t think you will need to worry about the Magic V5 running out of juice before you end your day.

VERDICT: The Honor Magic V5 is a compelling addition to the foldable smartphone market, blending cutting-edge hardware with a refined design. Its vibrant inner and outer displays, top-tier performance, and versatile cameras make it a strong contender for anyone considering a foldable smartphone.

At S$2,199 compared to Samsung’s latest foldable Galaxy Fold7 starting at S$2,698, the Magic V5 also represents superb value for money. For anyone looking for a foldable smartphone, the Honor Magic V5 is well worth considering and probably your best choice in the market right now.
