Belkin has issued a voluntary worldwide recall of its BoostCharge Pro for Apple Watch + Power Bank 10K (BPD005). In its statement, Belkin said that “a manufacturing defect can in some circumstances cause the portable wireless battery charger’s lithium cell component to overheat, which could pose a fire hazard to consumers”. This is despite no injuries have been reported from this defect, and no other Belkin wireless chargers are affected.
As my review attested, this S$159 power bank is one of my favourites. In fact, it is inside my daily backpack to work and have been with me on many overseas trips. Nothing has happened and I really love the convenience it brings. Unfortunately, it looks like I have to return this power bank.
If you have purchased this power bank, it is important that you immediately stop using it. In fact, Belkin advised that you disconnect it from any power supply or other products, and place it in a safe and dry location away from anything flammable or anything that might damage the power bank. In addition, Belkin said do not place this power bank into any trash or recycling bins.
