Legendary German camera maker Leica has launched a new digital rangefinder with the M11-D. I have no idea what the D stands for, but it is certainly not for display. Because the M11-D does not have one!
Yes, you read that right. The Leica M11-D does not come with a display. According to Leica, by doing away with the display on the back, photographers can focus on the elementary aspects of pictorial design such as composition, aperture, shutter speed and ISO.
Instead of the distracting display, there is a big ISO dial on the back of M11-D. Otherwise, you are still getting all the goodness of the iconic M series. Furthermore, it comes with clean lines and matt black painted surfaces. What I most like about the new model is the absence of the red Leica logo. No more a target for pickpockets or burglars.
The M11-D is able to shoot stills with a resolution of either 18, 36 or 60 megapixels (MP). With a buffer cache of 3GB and internal memory of 256GB, you can shoot continuously for up to five 60MP frames per second. Not to mention, the new M11-D will feel very comfortable in your hands at just 540g (115 lighter than its predecessor).
While the M11-D might give you the analogue vibes, it is still very much digital. It offers seamless connectivity to your smartphone or laptop via Bluetooth or direct cable connection. With the Leica FOTOS app, you can check the pictures and made adjustments independently from the camera.
The Leica M11-D will be available at all Leica Stores, the Leica Online Store, and authorised dealers at S$14,350 (body only).
