Two years ago, Leica launched the Q3 – the third generation of its highly-acclaimed fixed-lens full-frame camera Q family. Today, it just released the Q3 Monochrom. As its name implies, the Q3 Monochrom only shoots black and white photos.
Personally, I love taking black and white photographs since I started street photography from young. Thus, I have a soft spot for all the Leica models with a “Monochrom” name on it. As with all Leica Q3 cameras, the Q3 Monochrom is compact and paired with a fixed Summilux 28mm f/1.7 ASPH lens. But unlike its siblings, this comes with a dedicated 60-megapixel black-and-white full-frame sensor.

While it might not shoot colour photos, it is still able to shoot in three resolutions of 60MP, 36MP and 18MP. In fact, without a colour filter array, the Q3 Monochrom is able to capture sharper details, richer tones, and greater dynamic range than its colour siblings.
Not to mention, it is also the first Q-Camera to incorporate pioneering Content Credentials technology, which optionally embeds a digital signature into images to offer tamper-proof verification of their origin and any subsequent edits.
The Leica Q3 Monochrom will be available worldwide today at Leica Stores, Leica Online Store and authorised dealers at a recommended price of S$9,990.
