Sony Announces the Long-Awaited RX10 V with Advanced AI Tracking and a Massive 24-600mm Zoom

It has been a lengthy wait for fans of the all-in-one bridge camera, but Sony has finally taken the wraps off its fifth-generation superzoom, the Sony RX10 V. Aimed squarely at hobbyists, wildlife enthusiasts, and sports photographers who want a lightweight camera that carries plenty of punch, the new model pairs a massive zoom range with cutting-edge autofocus technologies inherited from Sony’s flagship mirrorless lineup.

At the heart of the RX10 V is the pairing of a 20.1-megapixel 1.0-type stacked Exmor RS CMOS sensor and the latest BIONZ XR image processing engine. While the core sensor size remains familiar, the new processor unlocks significant performance upgrades, particularly in terms of speed, low-light noise reduction, and colour accuracy.

The standout hardware feature remains the integrated ZEISS Vario-Sonnar T 24-600mm f/2.4-4.0 lens. This built-in optics system provides a massive 25x optical zoom range, allowing users to seamlessly transition from wide-angle landscapes to extreme telephoto close-ups without ever swapping lenses. It also boasts impressive macro capabilities, focusing as close as 3cm at the wide end and 72cm at the full 600mm focal length.

The most significant upgrade to the fifth-generation model is the inclusion of a dedicated AI processing unit. This unlocks Sony’s advanced Real-time Recognition AF, which can automatically detect, track, and predict the movements of humans, animals, birds, insects, cars, trains, and aeroplanes. Thanks to human pose estimation technology, the camera can maintain a lock on a subject even if they turn around or have their face obscured by helmets or sunglasses.

This intelligent tracking operates alongside blistering performance speeds:

  • 30 fps (frames per second) Continuous Shooting: Capture action-packed moments with full AF/AE tracking and entirely blackout-free viewing.
  • 60 AF/AE Calculations Per Second: Continuous adjustments ensure fast and unpredictably moving subjects stay in sharp focus.
  • Continuous Shooting Speed Boost: Photographers can dynamically alter their burst speed on the fly while shooting to save memory card space.

On the video front, the RX10 V bridges the gap toward professional cinema cameras by supporting 4K recording at up to 120p, allowing for smooth 5x slow-motion playback. It includes Sony’s S-Cinetone profile for cinematic skin tones straight out of camera, as well as S-Log3 for demanding post-production grading workflows.

The AI processor also introduces an Auto Framing feature for videographers, which automatically crops the frame to keep a moving subject perfectly centred, mimicking the work of a dedicated camera operator. Audio has been upgraded via a Multi Interface (MI) Shoe that supports digital sound input directly into the camera body.

Sony has modernised the camera’s body to reflect the design language of its Alpha mirrorless series, introducing an improved grip layout and an eight-direction multi-selector joystick. Composition is aided by a new, larger Quad-VGA OLED electronic viewfinder boasting 3.68 million dots, alongside an upgraded 1.62-million-dot 3.0-type rear LCD monitor.

Crucially, the RX10 V migrates to the larger NP-FZ100 Z-series battery. This updates still-image longevity to approximately 630 shots per charge – an impressive 50% increase in battery life compared to its predecessor. The body also features a dust and moisture-resistant design, dual-band Wi-Fi, and a USB Type-C port capable of 4K 30p live streaming.

The Sony RX10 V is available for order in Singapore starting today, 10 July 2026, at a retail price of S$2,799. Sony is running an early bird promotion from 10 to 31 July 2026, where local purchases will come bundled with a complimentary Wotancraft 3.5L Pilot Travel Camera Sling Bag worth S$190. Online orders with Sony Stores and authorised dealers will start from 6pm today.
