Japanese watchmaker CASIO has unveiled an all-new G-SHOCK MR-G Frogman Special (MRG-BF1000E-1A9), a timepiece created to commemorate two significant milestones in the history of the G-SHOCK brand. This extraordinary diver’s watch not only marks the 40th anniversary of the iconic G-SHOCK line but also the 30th anniversary of the beloved FROGMAN series.
Crafted with meticulous attention to detail and a passion for design befitting the flagship line of the G-SHOCK brand, the MR-G FROGMAN stands out with its titanium exterior, boasting a multi-component structure. The watch’s design has a special significance as it features a striking hue reminiscent of the yellow colour used for the very first FROGMAN model, the DW-6300.
CASIO is producing only 700 limited-edition pieces to be made available worldwide. Each set includes not only the MR-G watch itself but also an interchangeable titanium band and a dedicated tool for hassle-free band swapping. This FROGMAN comes with two band options for versatile wear. The first is a vivid yellow fluoro-rubber Dura Soft band, resistant to staining and hydrolysis, providing a comfortable fit on the wrist. The second band is a specially developed, interchangeable pure titanium band with moveable chain-links.
This MR-G FROGMAN dons the vibrant yellow colour that harks back to the original FROGMAN model. The watch’s crown, buttons, and screws are treated with gold IP (ion plating), adding a touch of opulence to the overall design. The titanium screw-lock case back of the MR-G FROGMAN features a press-fit sapphire crystal, ensuring an airtight structure while maintaining the watch’s radio wave reception sensitivity. Gold vapour deposition and engravings of the first-generation FROGMAN diving frog character grace the case back, alongside the inscriptions “G-SHOCK 40TH” and “FROGMAN 30TH,” serving as a fitting tribute to the anniversaries.
Designed with diving in mind, the MR-G FROGMAN boasts an airtight construction and ISO 200-meter water resistance. The watch features a protective structure with fluoro-rubber buffers installed between the bezel and case, ensuring excellent face-guarding functionality. In addition, the crown and buttons are built with protective components to absorb impacts to the module. The airtight screw-lock construction of the crown, complemented by water-resistant fluoro-rubber buffers, keeps the MR-G logo aligned even when the crown is screw-locked.
The watch offers full-analogue display functions that indicate dive times and surface interval times through forward and reverse rotation of the hands in dive mode. Additionally, the tide graph mode displays tide graphs for approximately 3,300 locations worldwide, accompanied by local time. The dial of the MR-G FROGMAN boasts large index marks that glow in the dark, ensuring readability underwater.
Not to mention, the MR-G FROGMAN is equipped with solar-powered timekeeping, Bluetooth connectivity, and radio control, enhancing accuracy and reliability. Its Super Illuminator (high-brightness LED light) ensures readability in low-light conditions. The scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, treated with an anti-reflective coating, guarantees clear visibility at all times.
The limited-edition MR-G FROGMAN comes in a special decorative box, exuding a profound look, and adorned with a badge commemorating the G-SHOCK and FROGMAN anniversaries. The stainless-steel band mounting tool, featuring a DLC coating and engraved with MR-G and FROGMAN logos, sports a knurled design inspired by a watch crown motif.
The MR-G Frogman Special (MRG-BF1000E-1A9) is priced at S$9,799 and will be available for purchase at selected G-SHOCK stores (MBS, ION, JEWEL, Tampines, VIVO) from 1 August 2023.
