Ever put your iPhone on a wireless charger before you go to bed to find it not charged the next morning? You can avoid that mishap with Belkin’s latest BoostCharge Pro 2-in-1 Wireless Charging Pad with MagSafe 15W.
As its long name implies, this rectangular-shaped charging device comes with a 15W MagSafe wireless charging pad as well as a 5W Qi wireless charging pad. As such, it is able to wirelessly charge your iPhone (12 or later) as well as your AirPods (with wireless charging case) at the same time.
PROS | CONS |
Sleek minimalistic design | Not cheap |
Compact size | Does not come with power adapter |
Fast wireless charging | A tad heavy |
Long 1.5m USB-C-to-USB-C cable |
It has a USB-C port at its rear to power this device. It comes with an LED light in front of the Qi charging pad that lets you know that your AirPods is charging correctly. Most importantly, the MagSafe technology will ensure secure and aligned connection to charge your iPhone efficiently.
With a footprint of 8.6cm x 16.1cm and around 1.6cm thick, it is rather convenient to throw it into your backpack or luggage. Thus, you can enjoy dual device charging easily on the go. But it is a tad heavy, tipping the scales at 360g.
When you are not travelling, you can leave it on your bedside table, office table or study table and it will not look out of place to its minimalist looks. It looks like a monolithic slab adorning your furniture. In fact, I think the bedside table is probably where most will place this device.
Apart from looking good, it has built-in safeguards to protect your connected devices with temperature control, overvoltage protection, and foreign object detection. Not to mention, it comes with a 2-year warranty and US$2,500 Connected Equipment Warranty, so you can have a further peace of mind.
Out of the box, the BoostCharge Pro 2-in-1 comes with a long 1.5m USB-C-to-USB-C cable. Unfortunately, it does not come with a power adapter. It would have been nice if Belkin included a recommended 25W power adapter in order to fully capitalise on the device’s capability. My fear is that some consumers might pair this device with a less-than-capable power adapter and end up getting poor charging performance.
For this review, I used the cable that came in the box and a Belkin Boost↑Charge Pro Dual Wall Charger 65W (Get it at Shopee). On paper, this wireless charging pad is supposed to charge an iPhone 14 to 50% in just 30 minutes and AirPods to 50% in just 45 minutes.
In practice, I found that it was able to charge an iPhone 13 Pro Max from 41% to 100% in 96 minutes, while also charging an AirPods (3rd Generation) from flat (in both earbuds and charging case) to full in 2 hours. The charging times might not be as advertised, but it is still pretty fast for wireless charging. Furthermore, this was done charging both devices at the same time.
VERDICT: Not every iPhone user uses an Apple Watch, but there is a high percentage of iPhone users who use an AirPods. The Belkin BoostCharge 2-in-1 Wireless Charging Pad with MagSafe 15W is designed to cater to these iPhone users who love fast wireless charging in a compact package. Despite its slightly-expensive price tag of S$139, the convenience it provides means it is a well-worth investment.
