Belkin BoostCharge Pro Magnetic Power Bank Review: It charges wirelessly and doubles as a smartphone stand

After my recent review about the Belkin BoostCharge [BPB021fq] power bank with integrated USB-C cable, here comes another power bank from Belkin – the BoostCharge Pro Magnetic Power Bank.

It has a power capacity of 10,000mAh, or 36 watt-hour (Wh), a healthy margin below the 1000Wh limit that most airlines have imposed on carry-on power banks. It is available in three colours of black, blue and white (version tested). Out of the box, you get a 1m USB-C-to-USB-C cable.

  • Price: S$139, get it at Shopee and Lazada
  • Power Capacity: 10,000 mAh,
  • Input/Output: 2 x USB-C ports
  • Output: 1 x Wireless Charging Pad
  • Weight: 223g

The design is quite similar to the Belkin Marvel power bank I reviewed last year, but without any motifs or graphics. I like the overall white minimalistic looks of the review unit. It might weigh a tad heavy at 223g. Still, it is rather compact and portable.

PROSCONS
Compact and portableGets a tad hot during charging
Can charge up to 3 devices at the same timeNot cheap
Doubles as a smartphone standRubberised wireless charging pad picks up dirt easily
Supports pass-through charging

On its top, you can find the metallic fold-out kickstand with the Belkin logo on it. Below the logo, you will find four-LED battery indicator. On one side beside the Belkin logo, there is a power button.

On the rear side, you will find a Qi2 wireless charging pad with rubberised texture. This charging pad supports 15W fast charging with compatible iPhone and other Qi2-enabled devices. It is also compatible with MagSafe and other cases up to 3mm.

This power bank comes with two USB-C ports. So, this power bank can charge up to three devices at the same time with 7.5W wireless charging and 10W USB-C output.

Furthermore, this power bank allows pass-through power charging, thereby allowing it to be used as a standard wall charger. With its integrated kickstand, you can literally use it as a bedside wireless charger for your iPhone.

Another good thing about this power bank is that it does not automatically charges your phone when you attach it. You need to press the power button before the wireless charging is activated. As such, you can just use the power bank as a vertical or horizontal stand for your phone even when you do not need to change the phone. Not to mention, it offers a good grip when attached to your smartphone while not blocking the phone cameras.

In fact, Belkin claims that this power bank is designed with your device’s camera in mind. It does not block the cameras when attached, which is true in my experience.

While it is pretty easy to attach the power bank to my iPhone 15 Pro Max, it is not very “sticky” to other smartphones, such as the Pixel 8 Pro, I tried on.

In my tests, using the wireless charging pad, I found this power bank taking 2 hours and 55 minutes to charge my iPhone 15 Pro Max from 50% to full. Mileage will of course vary, depending on how much usage of the device. But if you are using all three charging outlets, then it will become really slow when charging.

In addition, it does feel a bit hot during charging. Another concern is that the rubberised texture of the wireless charging pad tends to pick up dirt and grime over time.

VERDICT: At S$139, the Belkin BoostCharge Pro Magnetic Power Bank is not cheap. But it is one compact and portable power bank that offers a good grip, convenient stand, wireless charging and pass-through charging all rolled into one. Especially ideal if you are using Magsafe-compatible iPhones.
