Audio-Technica has officially launched its premium Hotaru turntable in Singapore, transforming traditional vinyl playback into a literal gravity-defying centrepiece. First teased as a concept at Milan Design Week 2025, the avant-garde, all-in-one analog ecosystem integrates a turntable, amplifier, and high-fidelity speakers into a single, striking footprint.
The Hotaru – named after the Japanese word for “firefly” – redefines typical audio hardware aesthetics. At its core sits a revolutionary magnetic repulsion system that suspends the acrylic turntable platter entirely in midair. Beyond acting as a dramatic visual parlour trick, this floating structure physically isolates the playback mechanics from both internal and external vibrations to ensure absolute sonic purity.

To pair with its kinetic design, Audio-Technica has built a sophisticated, multi-tiered illumination system capable of diffusing a 20-shade colour palette through the device’s sculpted acrylic body. Listeners can toggle between three distinct lighting modes:
- Basic Mode: bathes your room in a singular, curated colour block
- Gradient Mode: cycles through fluid, smooth transitions across the color spectrum
- Link Mode: dynamically analyses the real-time frequencies of the music, translating the sound into responsive, shifting hues
To celebrate the Singapore launch, Audio-Technica S.E.A. has partnered with Appetite, the local multi-sensory culinary-art lounge founded by Chef Ivan Brehm. The collaboration aims to showcase how the premium device functions seamlessly as a live interior masterpiece within luxury hospitality and residential spaces alike.

Beneath the artistic exterior, the Hotaru packs serious, uncompromised audio engineering. It features a concealed belt sub-platter drive to completely isolate motor noise, a high-rigidity straight carbon fibre tonearm, and a limited-edition black AT-VM740xML microlinear stereo cartridge. For serious audiophiles looking to customize, a hidden switch beneath the platter toggles between moving magnet (MM) and moving coil (MC) phono pre-amp gains, ensuring compatibility with alternative high-end cartridges. The entire unit rests on solid brass feet for maximum stability, weighing in at a substantial 13.6 kg.
The luxury experience even extends to the unboxing; the turntable arrives wrapped in traditional protective Kyoto furoshiki cloth, housed inside packaging designed to look like elegant alabaster stone.

As you might expect, the Audio-Technica Hotaru is not cheap retailing for S$13,188. It is available for purchase online or in-person at their Ubi showroom (11 Ubi Rd 1, #06-01, Meiban Industrial Building, Singapore 408723). Vinyl enthusiasts can also catch the Hotaru on display at the upcoming StereoNet Asia Hi-Fi & AV Expo 2026, taking place at Marina Bay Sands from July 10 to 12, 2026.
