The latest Logitech G309 LIGHTSPEED might just be the “perfect” wireless gaming mouse for the most of us- from office workers to casual gamers. It is almost like Logitech designers decided to tick every box that gamers wanted and created the G309.

PROS | CONS |
Superb performance | No fancy RGB lighting |
Reasonable price tag | No wired option |
Comfortable grip | |
Excellent battery life |
All these goodies are packed into a symmetrically-designed lightweight mouse that tips the scale at only 86g (with an AA battery) with a reasonable price tag of S$129.
Design wise, the G309 is as simple as it gets. It has six buttons including the two usual click buttons, the middle click button, two buttons on its left side and one DPI cycle button behind the scroll wheel. So, it is still not very suitable for left-handers, given that the side buttons are on its left.
The back cover of the mouse not only opens to the battery compartment, it also allows you to store the LIGHTSPEED receiver to prevent misplacing it. In addition, the rear bulge of the mouse allows for a great and comfortable grip whether you are a claw or palm gripper. If you want better grip, you can always the install grip stickers that come in the box.
In fact, every click or press of the side buttons elicits a nice tactile response along with a sweet clacking sound. Whether you are playing Diablo IV or Fallout 4, or whether playing RTS or FPS, using this mouse for gaming is pure joy as there is virtually no lag. You get instant response, nice sounding clicks and accuracy is always there.
For normal browsing, you might miss the free-wheeling scroll found in Logitech’s productivity MX series mouse or its side scroll wheel. But the G309 is first and foremost a gaming mouse, so I think it will be a little farfetched to penalise it on this. Plus, I have no issues using this mouse for work.
Similar to the Logitech G515 keyboard (review here), I have connected the G309 to my iMac via Bluetooth and my Windows gaming PC via LIGHTSPEED. At the bottom of the mouse, you will find a power switch and a connectivity switch that lets you toggle between LIGHTSPEED and Bluetooth connectivity. This way, I can quickly switch between work and leisure. Furthermore, using the G Hub software, I connected the G309 to the G515’s receiver. Thus, I can even bring this mouse with the receiver when I am working outside.
Apart from LIGHTSPEED and Bluetooth, the G309 is also compatible with Logitech’s POWERPLAY wireless charging system (sold separately). You can thus insert the POWERCORE module at the bottom of the mouse to use with the POWERPLAY gaming mat. This not only reduce the mouse’s weight by 18g but no charging required anymore.
That said, you really do not won’t have battery anxiety for this wireless mouse. Logitech rates the G309’s battery life at 300 hours on LIGHTSPEED and 600 hours on Bluetooth with one AA alkaline battery. During my review, I have been using the mouse on hybrid for over two weeks, switching between LIGHTSPEED and Bluetooth connectivity, and its battery level is still at full. Amazing!
Perhaps, the only downer is the lack of wired option. Again, this is a bit of nitpicking as I don’t really miss the wire since the battery life of this mouse is so good. Another nitpick is the lack of fancy RGB lighting like the fabulous Logitech G502 X Plus (review here). But battery life wins over RGB lighting anytime for me.
VERDICT: The Logitech G309 LIGHTSPEED wireless gaming mouse will probably be the first mouse I will recommend to friends who wants a wireless gaming mouse without breaking the piggy bank. With its superb performance, reasonable price tag and super-duper long battery life, the G309 ticks almost every box as the perfect wireless gaming mouse
