Huawei unveiled its line-up of laptops during its APAC Smart Office Launch in Bangkok, Thailand, last week. Only four laptops out of the many products announced at the event will come to Singapore, but we now know what are the models that will be reaching our shores with their pricing.
The laptops that will be available in Singapore are the MateBook X Pro (i7 version), the MateBook 16s (i9 version), the MateBook D 16 (available in both i5 and i7 versions) and the MateBook 14 (i7 version). They are available for pre-order starting this Friday, Aug 5.
Below is a quick look at the pricing of the respective laptop models as well as the gift bundles that come with each pre-order.
The free gifts looks stupendous and can be worth up to S$1,391, with a Huawei MateView 28.2-inch monitor already worth close to S$900. In other words, your MateBook 16s can considered to cost only S$1,398 if you manage to snag the monitor as a free gift.
To refresh your memory, the MateBook X Pro (S$2,798, get it at Shopee) is the flagship model of the Huawei Smart Office’s “Super Device” series. It has a 14.2-inch Real Colour FullView Display with the world’s first Eye Comfort 3.0 certification by TÜV Rheinland in a strong magnesium-alloy unibody design. The Singapore model comes with the faster 12th-generation Intel Core i7 processor with Intel Evo certification for optimal performance. During a brief hands-on with the MateBook X Pro last week, I found the laptop to be really premium and lightweight.
However, I find myself preferring the 16-inch MateBook 16s (S$2,298, get it at Shopee). Maybe because it looks rather like an Apple MacBook Pro of yesteryear. But in terms of performance, screen size and pricing, I think it strikes the sweet spot. Furthermore, it comes with high-end 12th-generation Intel Core i9 here in Singapore.
On the other hand, the MateBook D 16 (from S$1,298, get it at Shopee) felt more plastic and failed the one-hand lid-lifting test. The entire base will move up when you try to raise the lid with one hand. The MateBook 16s and MateBook X Pro both passed this test with flying colours. But the D 16 has a numeric pad for those who organise their lives around Excel sheets.
If you want a smaller size and better portability without burning a hole in your pocket, you can always go for the MateBook 14 (S$1,798, get it at Shopee).
Pre-orders of these laptops begin on Aug 5, with shipping slated to start from Aug 19 onwards.
